Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the IÖW since 11/2018, in the research field Unternehmen, Wertschöpfungsketten und Konsum. Gesellschafter*in of the institute. M.Sc. Nachhaltiges Wirtschaften, Universität Kassel. Schwerpunkte per his own profile: Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement, Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung, Kreislaufwirtschaft.
Profiled from the 2026-10-29 crawl of www.ioew.de — profile page, publication list and project list. No publication of his has been read; see Sources.
Status ⟨2026-10-29⟩
- Ranked first of the three IÖW people with material overlap to SINE — see IÖW → The three. He is the one doing standard-text work rather than heading a field, which makes him the operationally closest contact. ⟨Inference.⟩
- No relationship path recorded. Nobody in the SINE wiki is known to know him.
- Not approached, not contacted, no outreach decided.
What he actually works on
His profile states he “leitet am IÖW verschiedene Projekte und setzt sich dabei beispielsweise für bessere europäische Standards in der Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung ein”. Methods: qualitative — interviews and workshops.
ESRS — the first contact point
- First author of Weiterentwicklung europäischer Nachhaltigkeitsberichtsstandards für Unternehmen (2026, with Heinrich, Lautermann et al.) — the report of the IÖW’s multi-year scientific accompaniment of the EU standard-development process, environmental focus: material environmental impacts derived per sector, compatibility of the cross-cutting standards with supply-chain due-diligence duties and selected environmental law, gaps and inconsistencies, two company case studies.
- Sole author of Umweltberichterstattung von Unternehmen: Vereinbarkeit von Sorgfaltspflichtgesetzen und den Europäischen Standards für die Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung (ESRS) (2024).
The overlap, precisely. He works on what the standard must contain; SINE works on how a number inside it is made credible. Two halves of the same regulatory object, and neither side currently holds the other’s half. See product-level carbon regulation and ESG reporting in the financial sector.
Nature Credits — the second contact point
Current project: Nature Credits — Wissensstand, Analyse von Ansätzen und Entwicklung von Handlungsempfehlungen. The project page defines them as tradable certificates in the form of “einer quantitativ messbaren und nachweisbaren Einheit, die einen positiven Beitrag zur Biodiversität belegt”.
⟨Inference, basis: that wording read against coordination vs. bargaining failure. A certificate asserting a quantitatively measurable and verifiable unit about a private party, traded on a market, is formally the same class of problem as a verified carbon claim. The wiki’s own rule — confidentiality machinery in use ⇒ a bargaining component exists — cannot be run forwards here because the project outputs were not read; what can be said is that the claim-verification problem is structurally present and that nothing in the IÖW’s vocabulary suggests anyone there is treating it as one.⟩
Related: Ökonomische Instrumente für naturverträgliches Wirtschaften — regulative, informational and economic policy instruments for biodiversity and ecosystem services. See nature-related reporting frameworks.
Circular economy
- ÜBER-AUS — resource-efficient use of textile over- and off-cuts (post-industrial and pre-consumer waste) through regional loops in south-west Germany. IÖW coordinates; BMFTR funding line “Zirkuläre Textilien”; four research partners and four companies. The project description names Tracking of residual material streams alongside collection, sorting and cascading use. IÖW’s own share: business models, market analyses, action strategies.
- REPAID — reusable packaging in gastronomy; automation of return, point-of-sale interventions, “Möglichkeiten der Digitalisierung”.
- Kreislaufwirtschaft: Verzaubernde Perspektiven oder ein Mythos? (2023, with Frieder Rubik).
⟨Inference: ÜBER-AUS is the closest thing in the house to a digital product passport use case — material streams tracked across firms in a regional loop — and the project frames it as logistics and business models, never as a data problem. “Produktpass” appears in zero of 110 IÖW profiles.⟩
Other current and past work
GiBBS (biodiversity management in the building-materials industry, BMBF FEdA), BREsilient II (climate-resilient Bremen), the Mehrweg brochures (2024), Rebound-Effekte: Management und Vermeidung (2023, with Öko-Institut and Lautermann), Bremer Unternehmen im Klimawandel (2022, with Esther Hoffmann), the Metastudie “Nachhaltigkeitseffekte der Digitalisierung” (2024, with DIW and Lautermann).
Also on the team of the Ranking der Nachhaltigkeitsberichte (IÖW × future e.V., since 1994).
Relevance to SINE
- The sharpest single overlap found in 110 IÖW profiles — and it is an overlap of complementary halves, not of contested ground.
- Two independent bridges (ESRS text, Nature Credits) rather than one, which is what distinguishes him from the other two.
- He publishes the standards critique; SINE builds the verification. ⟨Inference: a joint output is imaginable — an ESRS gap analysis that names verifiability as one of the gaps — without either side moving onto the other’s ground. Not proposed to anyone; recorded as the shape the cooperation would take if one were sought.⟩
- Caveat: he is a wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, not a field head. He leads projects but does not set institute direction.
Open questions
- Does the 2026 ESRS report address data verification at all? The
report is not in
sources/. This is the single highest-value next read on the IÖW. - What do the Nature Credits recommendations say about how a credit is verified? Unknown; the project outputs were not read.
- Relationship path. None recorded. Unknown whether anyone in SINE’s network reaches him.
